Letting Go of Guilt & Regret
Guilt and regret are tied to the past as we believe we could have done things better. Hopefully we will choose to have compassion for ourselves as we did what we did with the level of awareness we had at the time. Our subconscious mind likes to keep us stuck in the past so it can maintain control over our thoughts and actions. In order to break free from this, know the only time you have real power to do anything is right now. Staying ‘in the moment’ is empowering and a very freeing experience. It can help you realize that peaceful feeling we all seek.
Whenever you feel yourself slipping into the past just bring yourself back to the moment and you will experience the peace and power that is the real you. A few ways to do this might be to take a few deep breaths, become aware of your body and release any tension. Then engage your senses. Notice the objects around you; colors, smells, sounds, really be present for them. Give thanks and appreciation for the many gifts before you. Another way is to put your hand over your heart and feel the love that begins to flow as you become aware of your heart and open it toward yourself , others and the world around you. Take a moment to forgive yourself, say the words, “I forgive myself “ as many times as you need to until you feel relief.
